Remember to include the attic, basement and/or garage when calculating box quantities — that's probably where most of your stuff is!

Keep stress to a minimum, start packing as soon as you find out you're moving.

Pack items first that you don't use often.

Use generous amounts of paper to cushion the contents of each box.

Pack all boxes tightly.

Clearly label contents and room on the outside of the box.

Clearly mark “Fragile” on the outside of boxes with breakable items inside.

Use clean newsprint wrapping paper. Old newspapers may work, but the ink may rub off onto your items.

Use professional packing tape. Masking tape is not strong enough to support fully packed boxes.
